SMART Grid staging to be SMART investment
Power providers need the ability to measure their customer's individual power requirements in order to provide ample power efficiently and only when the power is needed.
Power providers have a large predicament. In order to accurately predict and deliver enough power to their end users, they need a system that can report the customer's individual power requirements. This means the need for "reporting" or broadcast metering is even more important today than ever. According to Pike Research, governments and utility providers are expected to ramp up their investments in the electrical smart grid, spending a estimated total of $200 billion worldwide by 2015.
Facilities Integration Systems like ALC's WebCTRL and Energy Reports gives facility managers the ability to compare energy consumption or demand over different periods with simple drop-down menus and calendar control options. The system can also report back to power providers the average levels consumed as trended by the system, as well as the actual power levels required in real time. This means power users can monitor efficiency, adjust the power levels required by their buildings, and even negotiate reduced rates from the utility provider for sharing the vital information.

LEED verifies if a building is really GREEN
Enough time has passed for all the data to be compiled, processed and confirmed as to whether or not LEED can help make a building truly GREEN. And the results are positive.
LEED is a third-party, point-based certification program and a nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is proving to be a comprehensive tool for measuring and verifying the GREEN credits of a commercial building. LEED has been around for almost a decade, and is a process used to provide a focused look at the construction process, design, and overall optimum operational function of the building and its schedule, budget and quality. This article goes into detail to explain LEED and how the process is helping buildings cost less, last longer and reduce energy consumption.
